Proper etiquette dictates that any gift that is brought to a host is theirs to do with as they please, no strings attached. The decision is the hosts' to make; the only thing a guest can do in that situation is sit back and enjoy the hospitality. I probably would have just put both bottles aside, as I usually have wines picked out that are matched to the food I plan to serve.
