I had a similar problem with one of my MoFi's & as was pointed out there was vinyl flashings in the hole. The solution has been mentioned. I took my trusty pocketknife and gently removed the excess material. Worked fine afterwards. It sounds like you don't want to touch the record and are now trapped between wanting to play it and being terrified of damaging it if you try our suggestions.
and having heard this recording on Walker's system, it makes it all the more a wonderful kind of pain/pleasure, knowing how good it is, and not being able to attain it! Isn't that the very essence of the High- End?you gotta be nuts to love vinyl that much.
I'm gonna wait a while before I try to fool with it. As was suggested above, it is, literally, a work of art. I think hanging it on the listening room wall is a perfectly logical thing to do at this point.
If you want free advice (and since this is my free time I do not have to be sensitive): STOP being a wuss about it and try expanding the hole a bit. If you need to, practice on some old junk records.
you see, the answer is so simple, and I never thought of it! My wife has a whole bunch of Barry Manblow and Bread LP's I can practice on. I think I'll try Frank's method first...This is great...she has a whole crate of LP's I can practice on! Neil Diamon, America, what a great idea Estes! I'll tell her I'm doing it for $cience--it's research.
Remember you are just taking out a little of the vinyl. You will surprised at how little is needed. Now that you are over your obessive audiophile anxiety, send me a cheque for services rendered ;-).
