Hey all,Just thought I'd let you know that I've finally relocated to my new island joint. I've moved on up, to the East Side, the view from up here is... Funky. And there are no good chinese restaurants in my 'hood. But there's nice pizza and a heap of movie theaters.
I have been quiet for too long. My teeth have not dulled. My mind is a jeebus...
Tonight I'm drinking an especially difficult white rioja of the old school. It has all the charm of... Well, let's just say that it's as difficult as a presidential candidate. It's the 1995 Marques de Murrieta, Blanco "Capellania," rioja 1995. Lots of funky, ancient woodwork. Oxidation. Piercing acidity. It's like the criminallly-minded cousin of Tio Pepe, if you ask me... The kind of wine that will nmake a grown kane cry. That said, it's not all baaaaaaad.
The best, from my empty room...
Manuel
Follow Ups:
Manuel, you gotta get off that oxidized stuff, it's really toxic. Good to have you at least 'locatable'!
Victor,Oky, I was feeling a little too benevolent last night... To tell you the truth, that "oxidized stuff" is really an acquired taste... And yet... The beauty of it is that it will live faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar longer than most of the new-style white wines from Spain I've tasted in the past few months. Of course, it's also quite Manzanilla-pasada-like, and that's not likely to win it any points, period, if you know what I mean.
Still, that Murrieta ain't mo Tomdonia, or Gravonia...
Bestest,
Manuel
Hope to see you at the aforementioned jeebus (though how any gathering that purposely excludes burgundy can be worth attending I still don't know :).
No Burgundy?Ag, merdre, it's he 70s, isn't it?
But don't be disheartened. U shall bring excellent Rioja.
Bestest,
Manuel
You're bringin rioja? Maybe you should pour it into an empty bordeaux bottle and see if anyone notices.Seriously, in case you don't know the the details they're posted on wldg under 3rd Annual NYC WLDG Bordeaux Bash (on this board I never know when someone is being serious :).
Jay,Jay,
Sorry, I haven't been to WLD for a couple of weeks... The Kaneman mentioned nothing of the '70s event having to do solely with Bordeaux. But I guess I can return the favor to one SFJoe, who once poured some fine Port out of a bottle of Turley Doggie-do Zin.
Rioja in drag! Yeah, I like the idea, especially for its Studio 54 vibe...
I'll read the postngs on that other board and get back to you.
Best,
Manuel
There are circulating rumors on the six major wine boards that there will be a Brad Kane-themed jeebus in Manhattan sometime in early December, centered on unctuous Bordeaux with gobs and points. Have you heard anything about this?
Chris,I heard differently... The motif was 70s, which had me explring all sorts of wardrobe alternatives, not to mention a TLL rendition of beef Wellington.
Stuff with points? I don't know if I have any.
How do rumors get started?
Bestest,
Manuel
Hi, I'm new to this board. What's a "jeebus"?
