Weekend in Turin - recommendations for local wine?
Posted by Peter Earnshaw on October 19, 2004 at 22:32:40:
In two week's time I'll be making a trip to Turin for a long weekend away. There'll be some opportunities for wine to be drunk whilst there, and also for me to secrete a couple of bottles in my hand luggage for later consumption at home, or for laying down.
Am aware that this is Barolo country.... but not all Barolos are created equal !I'd appreciate recommendations for
1. Wines to be drunk in situ and/or bought and brought back home
2. Good, honest, local wine shops that will sell me good stuff rather than less good stuff that happens to have a dusty label! I'm unlikely to be leaving the city at any point during the stay so it's just city-based shops I'm afraid.
3. What're considered the best seasons for the region - think 1999 is a good candidate, any other years worth making a bee-line for? Many thanks for contributions.
