You need to rebuild the carb. They quit making parts for those motors back in 1998, but you can still buy NOS parts.
Certified parts corp. has parts. You can reach them at 1-800-356-0777
Tell them you need a carb rebuild kit. Also the gasket that goes behind the carb. Have the model number ready.
Before running the motor again, make sure you clean out the gas tank, or use an external tank.
Those motors can be a real pain, because of their carb problems. I have owned a few, including a 1980 7.5 hp that I have right now(it's for sale).
If you want a more reliable motor, invest in a 1950's Johnson or Evinrude.
