American small car with European.Japanese handling quality

and a millage per g. Which would it be? Some scoundrel has stolen my 12 years old Civic and I look around for small American sedan I'm tired of insurance ripoffs for foreign cars in my area and rows of Jap , Euro trash cars driven by my compensating poor social status tribesmen. I'm not into cars but read between the lines that American companies are closing 30 years of technological gap to foreign competition to something like 25 years which is encouraging, so which one is closest ?
