Ancient History . . . Ford vs. Rolls Royce 1966 . . .

Something jarred my memory on another forum about the near disaster Ford ran into while formulating its ad campaing for the '66 Galaxie. They wanted to test it against a RR and show the Galaxie was "nearly" or "almost" as quiet. Well, after several tests it was found to be quieter than a RR! They freaked and squirmed thinking no one would really believe that. Cooler heads prevailed and they boldy charged ahead with the "quieter than" rather the "almost" campaign. That was still in the golden days of percieved RR infallability.
