Re: Spool and Pulley steering

I slapped together a crude drawing for you to see. This is a basic rope control routing, There are of coure a few variations. Basicaly, the rope gets wraped around the spool several times, then the ends fed back through the pullys to the motor. turning the wheel will take up rope from one side, and feed it out the other allowing you to turn the motor. It is important you have enough wraps on the spool that it makes friction, If it is underwound, the spool will slip.

I have seen poeple use a cable staple to fasten the rope to the spool in the middle of the raps, But if you do this, You MUST be sure you have enough wraps to let the motor turn before it rotates the part of the rope with the staple off of the spool. some free spool is needed on top and on the bottom if you use this method.

Like I said, there are variations,, but this is the basic way it is done.

Good Luck with your prodject.
