Restoring Faded Fiberglass Finish...

4.65.12.208

Well... I too look for ‘mechanics in a can’ and from time to time find some things that do work. Above is an old ad for restoring the color to the gel coat of a fiberglass boat. The process involves 2 products -- Deks Rens Cleaner & Brightener and the Flood Co.’s Marine Penetrol -- which you an find locally or online from various suppliers by looking on the web through your favorite search engine. Here is the application recipe:

Mix Deks Rens Cleaner & Brighter 50/50 with fresh water.

Apply mixture with sponge, nylon abrasive brush, or soft scrub brush. Do not use a metal scrub pad or metal wire brush.

Let mixture work -- let is stand on surface for about 10 minuets.

Rinse away dirt and grease with fresh water. Wipe down surface with a damp sponge. Wipe up excess water with an old bath towel and allow to dry -- completely.

Apply Marine Penetrol with a soft cloth.

Polish gently before surface dries, using a lint-free cloth.

PLEASE NOTE TO FOLLOW ALL SAFETY PROCEEDURES FOUND ON THE MANUFACTURES CONTAINERS.

Now, my favorite wax is a product called SUPERCOAT MARINE SURFACE TREATMENT. Again you can find these folk's product on the web. I use this ‘wax’ on just about everything to make a long lasting shine.

Strato, if you haven’t already used these products and decide to go ahead with the process, let the SBF message board know how any of the above works.
