Boat Launching...

63.231.48.165

SBF received a newsletter from the Inland Empire Chapter of the Antique and Clasic Boat Society, Post Falls Idaho. Their yet to be named newsletter contained an invitation (10:00 AM Sat.24th of March 2001) from Rann Haight, the builder, inviting members to the launching of Elsie May at Lake Coeur d'Alene (3rd Street Boat Ramps). The vessel is a 26ft. "adaptation of the Hammond Power Dory shown in John Gardner's book 'More Building Classic Small Craft' (sic). Haight continues: It is a pure displacement hull that takes very little power to attain hull speed...It's work boat origins result in a seaworthy shape that ignors the chop...It's proportions and strong sheer line makes an elegant open launch...It is safe to say this boat will be the first of its kind to float anywhere in the last seven decades" (!!!) The Specs: LOA 26 ft., WL 21 ft., Beam 6 ft., Draft 2 ft., Disp. 2500 lbs., Power 10 h.p. Saab Diesel, Hull Douglas Fire plywood over Mahogany frames. If after the launcing pics are sent to SBF we will post a few to this Forum.
