1973 Steury deck hole

66.156.146.156

I just bought this boat and found out it was a fixer upper.
The motor is a 40 horse Johnson that runs great so i am going to go ahead and work on the boat
It is a 1973 14 foot tri-hull Steury i had it on the water already and decided to replace the carpet to make the boat look better.
I tore the carpet out and notice a peace of wood screwed to the fiberglass under the seat pedestal. Ok well the wood was rotten so i took it out and noticed a BIG hole same size as the base of the pedistal. I looked in the hole and saw that the wood (subflooring) underneth the fiberglass floor was rot. The fiberglass structure (frame or whatever you call it) looks perfect as far as i can see.
I am new to this and i think it may be past my ability to fix yet for costs sake can i put down a 3/4 inch peice of plywood all the way across the deck to cover the hole and seal it with something? or should i tear up the fiberglass and the wood rot on the floor?
Local ship yard is 2-3 weeks behind and says he wont be able to get a chance to look at it till end of summer or late fall.
And links or advice will realy help me out and advice is more than welcome. thnx for your time
