Transducer install on Carolina Skiff

We own a 21 foot Carolina Skiff w/ a 115hp Johnson. I have a late model Humminbird Piranah 3 fishfinder that I have installed. It has a transom mount transducer. I have followed the mounting instructions to the letter, but still cannot get the transducer to work at any kind of speed. Anything over a fast idle knocks out the readings completely.

Any suggestions?
