Need help with fiberglass boat transom

While replacing floorboards in my fiberglass boat I have found the wood at the transom is very soft (i can push a screwdriver into it easily) It all seems to be intact and the back of the boat doesn't seem to flex when i move the motor. All fiberglass is in good condition. Is there anything I can do? do I need to have it replaced?
