I have a 16' Starcraft aluminum boat. I need to have some transom work done. It has busted away on one side, so I'm sure I need to have it welded & probably some other work done.Any suggestions of where I can call to get this fixed in Northern Minnesota? I have checked everywhere & it doesn't seem like anyone likes to tackle transom work.
Follow Ups:
It doesn't look too serious. It pulled away on the right side on the top. The guy I bought it from did put a big bracket on & riveted it together. It held for a few years, but pulled away.

You did not state exactly where your transom is torn, is it ripped completely through to the inside? If you have a transom reinforced with wood and two layers of aluminum, and the outside has pulled the rivets, then it might not be too serious. Iwould look for a sheetmetal fabrication shop. These people usually have at least one person on hand who is an acomplished mig welder who can weld aluminum. I know that this might sound weird but, Is there a custom chopper shop or camper repair near you. these folks work with aluminum on a daily basis and are sure to have someone who can help. I use a guy at a custom motorcycle shop to weld aluminum all the time. Won't hurt to ask.,TG

Hmm, well you might try 45 degree or so brackets and heavey dutey Pop Rivets. I do not have a aluminum boat, So I am not certain how to seal it, But you should be able to rivet it back together with a bracket/brace or 2
