I recently purchased a custom made 14 foot sail boat. It was designed for inboard engine placement. Im thinking of possibly installing an air cooled honda engine with a universal joint and stainless steel shaft. This boat is already equipped with an engine platform and stuffing box, however this boat has never been powered. I cant find any information on this sort of configuration. Can anyone give me some input? Thanks, Chuck

The only real problem I can forsee with an aircooled unit would be getting enough air to cool the motor. If the motor is enclosed in an engine room, covered with a cowl box. you would have to ventilate the cover heavily on the sides near the bottom to provide positive airflow to the motor. It would certainly overheat without this venting. Mounting would be easy enough. Also unless you add some sort of transmission you could only power forward. Also, you would need some way to vent the exhaust to the rear out side.I would say by the time you spend all the money and time to make the motor marine compliant, etc. you might be better off buying a small marine unit,or settling for a small outboard. Just my thoughts., TG.
