Welcome! Need support, you got it. Or share you ideas and experiences.
I am having various problems with my 22hp inboard diesel engine. I have decided to remove it and have a well fitted to enable an outboard to be mounted. The boat is an 18ft Plymouth Pilot and is of medium weight for its size. The rounded displacement style hull is capable of a maximum of 9 knots. What would be the minimum horsepower outboard engine required to achieve its maximum speed? Also, can anyone suggest a good second-hand outboard retailer in England and do they have a web site?
Follow Ups:
you would need at least a 40 hp engine, i own a 16 ft plymouth pilot with a 30 hp suzuki out board and that can achieve about 10 knots but you will have to make sure that the trim is properly set outherwise at full speed you will find an ingress of water due to the boat cutting through the water at the wrong angle and water coming over the side, all it needs is carefull adjustment and a balanced load and it will sit lovely at full speed. preferably have an outboard with stabiliser fins this will also help.
good luck chris
