I have just purchased a 1970 20hp Johnson outboard on a pontoon boat. I am breaking sheer pins at a riduculous rate. I have talked to someone at a marina who gave me a stronger grade of sheer pin. This new "stronger pin" broke in the first 5 minutes of operation. Does any one have any ideas about why this is occurrring or what I might try??Thanks

You might have to find a machine shop and have a few made.

Sounds to me like you're hitting something. Might be the wrong prop or the wrong size pin also. How well does the pin fit?
Is the prop tight on the shaft?is there excessive end play? or side play? I would guess the torque of the motor is pushing the prop against the pin and there being excessive play U might be working and wearing right thru the pin
