Thanks Thom, I appreciate the info. It appears that this undertaking will be more involved than i initally expected. I still think it would be worth it, enviromentally but finacially it would take some time before one would receice your moneys worth. It will be a fun project though!

With a 14' inflatable you have some carrying capacity. The Calcium Gell Cell type battery is a good bet as their at rest voltage is high-13.4 volts or so compared to a lead acid types at rest voltage of 12.4. Another type is the combination lead calcium AGM absorbed glass mat type as on the site: powerstride.com They have some mighty small sized units that could be paralleled for longer run time and they have 3 stage type chargers too. One would have to build some quick release cables to make the portability factor for off boat charging easier...
