Hi, I just bought a used Gamefisher 9.9 and can't figure out if it has a water pump in the usual sense. I have been reading that some Gamefishers are aircooled and only use the water pump for the exhaust. I am trying to determine if the engine runs smooth but don't want to run it too long in the bucket without water streaming out. I see nothing. The only output hole looks to be submerged under the water surface anyway which leads me to believe it is air cooled. Someone please help. I wanna fish! The model number is 225.581990. Serial 1956. ANY help is appreciated. Thanks!!

this motor is water cooled. Most all over 5hp are. Motor was made by force marine. Mercury dealer or an independant shop can service it. I would have it checked for other problems before going to the expense of repairing water pump. If the motor is submerged in a five gallon or larger bucket it should be pumping water. Needs to have the cavitation plate completely covered with water to insure that the pickup holes are under water. ,Tailgunner
