This steel ring was a used a century ago to attach pulleys for moving 70 ton 12" guns by mule team at one of the old Coast Artillery batteries at Fort Warden, Port Townsend, WA.Nikon D1, 28mm f/2.8 Nikkor. Image manipulated in Photoshop CS, nik Color Efex pro and nik Sharpener Pro.

I looked at the different channels and green was definitely the one for a B&W conversion - good call. Spent some time this afternoon swearing at my HP 1220C while trying to make a print of this pic. It makes quite nice prints and I got a nice print on plain paper, but it chokes on the really thick premium photo papers - just won't feed 'em. We've had it for a few years now, so I maybe I can justify a nice new Canon printer for the biz...
