1998 ChardonnayKeep for about 3 to 7 years. Longer in a cool cellar. Big structured vino.
Colour : Light gold at the moment.
Bouquet : Primary fruit character. Pear. melon, citrus. Add some nuttiness
from the French oak and the butterscotch, honey and coffee aromas from
malolactic ferment and oxidative handling. There is also an elusive,
but definite odur of WINE.Food : Seafood - crayfish, scallops, Atlantic salmon (poached) richer
white meats like guinea fowl. Possibly roast crocodile if you
can lay hands on any about the creek.Alcohol : 13.8%
Acidity : 7.5 g/l
pH : 3.37How Much? $AUD274 / doz + freight
By God you make it sound sooo appetising - even with the croc. Mind you at just under £10.00(UK) a bottle so it should be. Where in Tassy is the vineyard situated? Close to Launceston? I spent some time with RTZ up in the Mountains and remember meeting a bloke who claimed to the best rodeo bull-rider in OZ there - mind you he chugged away on beer, as far I can remember.

Actually the bloke I'm talking about seemed genuine. Showed me how a bull crushed his hand the first time he rode a Brahmin when he wound the surcingle (think you yanks call it a cinch - or is that what we call the girth?)around/under it. When the bull inflated his chest ...
PS Tasmania is a comparitively small island (compared to Oz not UK) that has a very small population and the inhabitants tend to have the biggest, best, strongest ... etc. It is/was famous for its apples, beer and girls (some states were ruder about this list). Beautiful unspoilt beaches but cold, wet and full of companies determined to rape its ecology. Most Australians forget it exists 99% of the time!

You are correct and I loved it there - just a shame that I worked for RTZ!
I would imagine that the climate is actually just right for a really good white. Sorry about the attempt at humour - it must be the fact that I still am influenced by Sydney (altho' I lived for several years in the wine growing Mudgee/Gulgong area). I wish you the best of luck and will mention you to a small independent Wine importer that I know - mind you I think he probably drives a hard bargain!

G'DayYes, not far from Launceston, and in spite of the price (not cheap),
it is worth it. Still a long way from the cost of much French (Chateau)
wine. Piper's Brook do knock out an excellent Pinot Noir in a
'french' (small 'f') style.Regards,
