Syrah tasting...

6 of us blind tasted 6 wines, ranked them first to last and the low points wins.

First I want to say that all of these wines were pretty good. If you sat down with any of them with dinner you would enjoy them. But side by side, they were all a little different.

6. 2014 Alban Patrina Edna Valley $49 - 30pts - 1 first, 4 lasts - this one started off with a little off-flavor that went away, but it had a slightly tannic finish.

5. 2014 Rusack Santa Barbara $28 - 26pts - 1 last - a little bland, but nicely balanced.

4. 2015 McClean One Last Syrah Paso Robles $25 - 20pts - 1 first - this one improved as the fruit emerged. One taster describer a bitter taste, another called it smooth.

3/2 2013 Bouchaine Rockin' Hiway Sonoma Coast $50 - 19pts - rich with a hint of vanilla

3/2 2015 Pundit Columbia Valley WA $25 - 19pt - 1 first, 1 last - best label, Henry's wine - best label and almost the winner.

1. 2013 Calcerous Vineyard Moose Paso Robles $39 - 12pts - 3 firsts (my #1) - fruit forward at first but the fruit settled down and it became more balanced.

The Calcerous was the big winner but for the price the Pundit is the bargain.

For me, this was one of the most difficult tastings. All of the wines had subtle differences and they all changed a little - some for the better and others for the worse. They were moving targets without a lot of difference.

A couple of the tasters said they divided them into two groups since 3 were better than the others. But the scores show more like four vs the other two if you look at it that way.
