Expensive cabernet tasting...

Posted by mkuller on November 24, 2015 at 20:46:24:

...6 of us tasted 6 recent cabs costing over $50.

This was a difficult tasting - after changing in the glass, many tasted very similar.

6. 2010 Meyer Family Cellars Oakville $57 - 26pts (one first)

5. 2011 Joseph Phelps $70 - 24pts

4. 2011 Silver Oak Alexander Valley $70 - 23pts (one first) WS85

3. 2012 Robert & Rogers Louer Family $65 - 23pts (one first) WS92

2. 2012 Chimney Rock $60 - 16pts (2 firsts) WS87

1. 2012 Chateau Montelena $65 - 14pts (one first)

Note the score clusters - the top two, a big point gap, and then the next four (my #1 and #2 were the Chimney Rock and the Roberts & Rogers).

First, most of these can be found for up to 40% off the list price.

Second, they are young and would no doubt improve with some bottle age bringing out their fruit.
