RE: What are you pouring...

It's my under drinking age daughters and I today, so I'm not going crazy. I went down to the cellars (aka basement) and found a Kason Vineyards Old Vine Reserve 2010 Pinot Noir.
I'm sure someone came into my place and wanted to trade wine but I honestly have no recollections. From the label, it's everything I dislike in a wine:
1) Old Vine...what does that mean exactly?
2) Reserve hopefully the best barrels I guess
3) 100% french oak ...all new wood on Pinot?
So I'm thinking dark Syrah like Pinot from someone looking for high scores
What I got was a light colored (it was 2010 after all...very very cool) pinot with a slightly funky nose. It may have all been french oak, but they certainly weren't all new in 2010 so I'm confused by the label. Probably too much fruit for its own good...could use more of everything else....earth and stuff. Almost like it has residual sugar...probably just fruit though.
A pleasant surprise.
