Red wine recommendation...
Posted by mkuller on November 14, 2014 at 22:52:24:
...I seldom drink merlot.
Perhaps it's because I remember when it just used to be used as a blending wine to soften cabernets - most I find are uninteresting and lack a nice finish.
Or maybe it's because of "Sideways".
I much prefer zinfandel, pinot noir or cabernet.
But I was at a hotel bar in SF last weekend and asked the bartender which of the reds he recommended.
He said the 2012 Whitehall Lane merlot was his favorite.
I was given tastes of a half dozen reds they pour by the glass and this was by far the best - nice fruit with a good balance and I'd probably not have guessed it was a merlot.
Priced at $28 but it can be found in the low $20 range.
Recommended - check it out.
