Wine tasting group - Spanish riojas...

Posted by mkuller on November 18, 2011 at 11:35:44:

...never having tasted riojas, I was surprised how much I liked them.

Five of us tasted 6 wines and all of them were pretty good with nice fruit - the scores (best 1pt., worst 6pts. each) were all over the place but a few stood out:

#1 - 15pts - (3 firsts, 2 lasts) Volver Single Vinyard 2009 (Parker 91 pts) $15

#2 - 15pts - (no firsts, no lasts, 3 seconds) Muga Reserve 2006 $27

#3 - 16pts - (one first, one last) Marques de Murietta Reserve 2005 $22

(Bottom 3 wines had 19, 20 and 20pts)

I thought the Volver had a little more depth and complexity than the others.
