Re: Santa Cruz

...we were in Santa Cruz this weekend and went out to the wharf Friday night to try an upstairs wine bar - Vino Primo - we hadn't been to before with great views.
Looking at the menu of flights -3 tastes - I noticed some zins and pinots, mostly local Santa Cruz, Monterey and Paso Robles.
Stacy, the bubbly owner, suggested the pinot noirs as being better than the zins.
I bit. She said, "And tonight we're tasting a new one from Hillcrest Cellars."
I told her I was familiar with them - she said, "Oh, you know Joe?"
She said she was pouring his Fambrini but liked his Santa Lucia better, but it was pricey ($45).
Of the three pinots - Poppy, Navarro and Hillcrest - I thought the standout was the Navarro, priced in the low $20s. Stacy agreed.
The place was lively with a bunch of locals, interesting wines I hadn't seen before and friendly owners.
On Saturday morning I was returning from the gym and drove by the Swift St. wine tasting rooms. Joe was out in the street adjusting his sign so I pulled up and said hi and told him they were pushing his wine on the wharf. He said he hoped they sold a ton.
