At a dinner last week where everyone at the table was in some way or another involved in the wine business, the wine of the evening (at least for me) was a white wine from the Golan in Israel! I have no idea what the grapes are (the back label was all in Hebrew) but it was very refreshing with apps. The winery is called Golan and if your guests require Kosher it would be a good bet!
The disappointment of the evening was the wine I brought..a 2006 Rivers-Marie Napa Cab. Made by Thomas Brown, whose Pinot's I adore. Super fruit bomb, high alcohol..really boring. What a bummer...I wonder if the cabs he makes for other people (Schraeder, Outpost, etc) that get such high scores are similar?
