What's the word on sythetic oil?

Thinking about switching to a pure synthetic or synthetic blend. Would both be good for the standard 5K mile oil change? I would like to treat my four-cylinder right and have the convenience of doing the standard 5K service interval instead of 3K to 4K standard oil change.

Any suggestions?
