...I'm always intrigued by which wines restaurants choose to pour by the glass - I think it says a lot about the place. Maybe not.

I was in Las Vegas for the past few days, first a couple with my wife for pleasure and then a couple more for a convention.

Mon Ami Gabi, a nice French restaurant at Paris serves French wines and had a nice inexpensive bordeaux which was recommended.

Mesa, Bobby Flay's place at Caesar's, surprisingly had the best by the glass list - Siduri pinot noir, Mauritsen zinfandel and an Adelsheim chardonnay, all delightful.

Fleur, Hubert Keller's (of Fleur de Lys in San Francisco) at Mandalay was the most disappointing - a 2006 Bordeax which seemed past its prime and a 2012 Justin cab that was sweet fruit bomb.

Aureole at Mandalay with the wine tower which the girl in a harness rapels up to 4 stories to get your bottle of wine had a 2012 Newton Red Label cab and the 2102 Whitehall Lane merlot I've recommended here, both nice but pretty common (both available at Costco). With a wine theme like that I expected a little more.

Lupo, Wolfgang Puck's at Mandalay, was at least pouring 2012 Seghesio zin.
