I have found out a little on the history of this grape. I apologise if you all know it already but it is fairly impressive and all the other good grapes can be teraced back to their origin (European).I am informed that it was originally an Italian grape that was transplanted to Cal and took to the conditions there. The original grape was wiped out by a disease (fungus, bacteria, insect?) and the only remaining vines were those in Cal. This almost makes it an American grape! There must be a god ((Bacchus/Dionysius?) who looks after wine drinkers)!
