Lost and Need Help

Posted by Frihed89 on September 4, 2011 at 00:34:01:

I own a Panasonic DMC TZ7. It worked great for us until the shutter cover failed, after two years.... annoying.

What is a good substitute for this camera? It must be compact, have a good telephoto (magnification), with an easy point and shoot mode, HD movies, reasonable macro-mode, for outdoor and indoor use. It's mainly a travel/family camera. The pic quality on the Panasonic is fine.

I understand the problem I have is very common for the Panasonic. I wonder about other cameras in this class.

I am willing to pay up to about $400 (in the US).

Yes, I have searched the camera sites until I am blue in the face, but user reviews are always mixed between: it's fantastic and it sucks.

I hit upon the Nikon S9100 and S8200, which had some good reviews, but a lot of negative user reviews.
