Zinfandel tasting...

...over $30.

Six of us blind tasted 6 wines and low score is the favorite. In this case all of the wines were all pretty good so the scores were all over the place.

6. 2013 White Oak Healdsburg Alexander Valley $35 - 31pts - 2 lasts - a little acidic, a slight off smell - the person who brought had tasted it before and thought he had a bad bottle.

5. 2015 Ridge Pagani Ranch $36 - 24pts - 1 last - I thought this one was ok but didn't have much depth although it improved somewhat (my #2).

4. 2016 Once & Future Teldeschi Vineyard Dry Creek $46 - 21pts - 1 last - this one was mine and came highly recommended - it was a little tannic at first, then opened up with a little fruit (my #3).

3. 2014 Frank Family Napa $35 - 18pts - 1 first - smooth, but not very distinctive.

1/2. 2016 Turley Kirschenmann Lodi $44 - 16pts - 1 first - this was my first. I thought it was nicely balanced with a little depth and slightly tannic finish. Henry's wine, again so close.

1/2. Truett-Hurst Red Rooster Dry Creek Valley $36 - 16pts - 4 firsts, 2 lasts - this was the most controversial one - (my last) I thought it was a big fruit bomb, although it improved a little over time.

This was an interesting group of zins. Any one of them by itself with barbeque would be terrific.
