Roy Bedichek: "Adventures with a Texas Naturalist."

A wonderful book: essays mostly about the Texas Hill Country (home
of the world's best peaches). Full of innumerable delightful tidbits
of information: for example, the federal government program that
encouraged Texas ranchers to build stock ponds to save runoff in the
50's extended the range of the Vermilion Flycatcher hundreds of miles
into West Texas. The Mexicans call this bird La Cobracita del Fuego.
