I recently inherited an old wooden boat all operational except the steering system which has a spool on the bottom of the steering wheel. Rope spools around this and runs back to a pulley system in the transom. It looks like an older standard system.Problem is the way the rope should be spooled around the steering wheel spool. I have tried various wraps etc and can't work out the way this should be configured its got to be fairly simple.
Is there any old sea dog out there whom knows this system and could provide a few pointers or direct me to appropriate information.
Would be much appreciated.
