I think a carolina skiff would be a bit of a pig to row. But you are talking about emergency power, in case the motor conks out, right? I think oars would serve well enough for that. At least to give you steerage until you could hail somebody for a tow. And if you are sufficiently energetic, and the wind and tide are in your favor, you might row all the way home.

Can you borrow a set of oars and give it a try?

On a boat of that size and weight, you might find more success by sculling with a single oar off the back of the transom. Google up "yuloh" and you'll get some interesting links to a weird (but effective) method of propelling a large craft by hand.
