Before I comment on composition ! Is this child jumping into the air ?

It appears it might be. If so I'm trying to find evidence to which no shadow under him. Low contrast situation here. I also am looking for some piece of clothing that would move or flap durring a jump. Without these clues, a viewer is at a loss to explain his/her feelings about this image.

Composition is fine , in regard to a high center viewpoint.( much better than the center bullseye approach, used by an unknowing amateur. Even cutting off subjects head is an accepted form of composition.

Perhaps taking a shot like this , would have a different feel . If taken from a lower camera position shooting up at a jumping subject.. Or from a high camera position , as R B states shooting just the mat, elininating the grassy background. But I really miss not seeing a shadow underneath illustrating some kind of depth.
