Missing Registry Files

My Pc is running Windows Xp and I have 2 users configured.
Recently, when I went to log in, I received a message that one of the registry files was missing, but that it was recovered from an alternate file or log. I clicked ok and it started to load the user profile, but never finished...even after a couple hours.
The other profile loads perfectly, and the computer seems to operate fine.
I do have a second hard drive that is a duplicate of the first (well, it hasn't been updated in about 3-4 months).
What is the best way to fix this???
