Deleting trial version software

My Compaq computer has a trial version of Windows Office 2003 bundled into the pre-installed software. I don't have any great need, if any, for this software. I'd like to delete it but won't if Office 2003 is tied into other programs such as Outlook Express.
Is it safe to delete or can I just shut it off through the start up menu? Some recent MS updates seem to have allowed it to affect my photo editing software and I can't think of any other way that could've let it into Paint Shop Pro 9 for emailing photos.
