help with dvd-rw drive

Hi,
Just bought a Pioneer DVR-110D DVD-Rw for my Dell Dimension 8200. Here's the problem: The computer only recognizes the drive as a CD-rw. I can't burn DVD at all. I've already updated the firmware for the drive, and I have all the latest updates from microsoft. Any suggestions?
