Windows Media Player problem

I could use some advice. I was ripping using Windows Media Player 10. Everything was fine until I had a problem ripping one of the cd's causing Media Player to crash. I'm using a Plextor 712A DVD-RW drive. Normally the drive is set for Ultra DMA 2. After it crashed Windows (XP Pro) set the drive to PIO Mode. I have tried everything from assigning UDMA2 in the motherboard BIO's (ASUS KV8 Deluxe), to uninstalling and reinsatlling the drive and updated firmware (1.07). Windows still has it set for PIO mode....any suggestions to get it back to Ultra DMA would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Alan
