Off topic: need help buying mini camcorder for wife

Please excuse my double posting, as I need help desperately and have never posted on this board! Yes, my wife got enamored of the little Flip Mino HD that her friend carries around in her pocket. Selling points: coolness (to the uninitiated), no-husband-required download to PC and upload/email to friends and sites, size and weight. We already have a great Canon mini-DV camcorder and digital still camera too, so this isn't the main event. It's a birthday gift for her, not for me. But when I tried shopping the Flips, then the competition, then the smaller but more camcorder useful devices, the multitude of models and features - and especially the multitude of user reviews that run all over the board - really shut me down! Can anybody help me here from experience? Does anyone feel they have a handle on these? I'd hate to go out and spend $150 or more and find I have a piece of crap that breaks or falls short, even for her limited uses. FYI, I'm experienced with videography, photography, graphics (computer, chemical, and traditional media), computers. The issue isn't my understanding what's technically what, it's figuring out which of these crappy little devices will be the least disappointing for the price (and the spouse)...
