Just got an invoice from a new wine club I joined. The 10% ($25) club discount was more than offset by the $50 S&H charge for 6 bottles.

I cancelled the membership.

Did you expect them to ship it for free after giving you a discount?
Honestly, you know how much 6 bottles of wine plus packaging plus insulation weighs. How much do you think UPS or FEDEX charges and what is the distance from the shipping point to wherever you live?

If you're within a state or two from the shipping point, I'd suggest that $50 is a little much. If you 're a few states away, then ...

On the other hand, didn't they tell you how much it was to ship 6 bottles to you? If they didn't at the time or ordering, then I would not have ordered from them.

Being wine clubs, they know they are going to sell x amount of wine to you. You have to agree to annually buy a certain amount of wine to get the discount. Heck, Siduri gives their membership 20% discount off their retail prices and includes the shipping for free. Other wine clubs I belong to average $3-$5 per bottle S&H. And most of them have offerings throughout the year where they offer free shipping on current releases.

Mailing lists, not so much. But then I'm not required to buy anything.

$8 per bottle is the most I've ever seen from a wine club.
