I am clueless when it comes to anything champagne/wine but was going through some boxes in the basement and found a 1996 Dom Pérignon bottle that was a housewarming gift back in 2001.

I assume champagne goes bad after a few years? Should I just toss it?

Chill it in a bucket of ice water, when you are ready, and give it a try..., posted on January 22, 2018 at 20:45:07
If the basement is on the cool side year round, with a bit of humidity, it might be fine/OK.

Leave it where it's at (on its side) for the time being.

...and it could be spectacular.

How do you feel about opening a bottle of $475 champagne?

Or you could talk to your local high end wine merchant and see what he's willing to trade you for it.

Thanks for the info. I think I will take your advice and drop by an established wine merchant this weekend and see what they say.

Appreciate it.

Wine merchant was impressed but had no interest in a trade or purchase. Wish I could find someone who would buy it. Otherwise, it will just sit here.
