Wine Spectators weekly email blast came out yesterday and I'll admit that the only reason I went looking for it was because one of my wines was in it.
But what caught my eye, was the Colgin Napa Cab for ....wait for it....$550 a bottle!

There were other Napa cabs in the 350-500 range....who buys them?

My $30 Syrah got the same score (albeit form a different reviewer).....such a bargain.

What wine would you pay $550 for?

...good question - serious collectors?

I don't think I've paid over $100 and that was a bottle of Dunn cab I had heard so much about a couple of years ago.

Most of my purchases are under $50 even for 95 point wines and there are some really terrific $25 wines.

I can only imagine that it would be someone to whom $550 is not all that much -- sadly not me. There aren't any wines I'd buy at that price. I do have a few '89 and '90 bordeaux left in my cellar that now would go for that price and more. I've thought of trying to sell them for a bit less than the prevailing market prices but I bought them to drink.

...I had a friend who used to buy Bordeax futures by the case.

Then he would trade them with wine shops for other more expensive wine.
