I'm in the market for a replacement motor and am trying to decide whether to go for a 2nd hand Yamaha F115 4-stroke or a new carbureted 2-stroke (probably Yamaha or Johnson) - the prices are similar. The 2nd-hand F115 is ex commercial, has about 850 hours, but is only a year old. It looks good. I'm looking for opinions about whether this motor is likely to be significantly worn, and what sort of service I might see from it - I'd probably only put about 50-100 hours a year on it.
Does anyone have much experience with these motors? Is there any known fault I should look for? What would be good / fair / poor compression readings? Any advice would be gratefully received....
Thanks

I use an F115 jet on one of my boats in AK, it is a fantastic motor. Have had problems with cold starts, but otherwise flawless. You will want to have a shop do a service on that engine and check the diagnostics.
